Blood In Protein

Proteinuria is increased levels of protein in the urine. Presence of protein in urine could be transient as in after strenuous exercise or persistently raised as in secondary to underlying kidney disease. Abnormally raised
presence of protein in urine itself is damaging to kidneys. Treatment is often directed to underlying cause.

When your kidneys are not working as well as they should, protein can leak through your kidney’s filters and into your urine (i.e., your pee). Protein in your urine is called proteinuria or albuminuria. It is a sign that your kidneys are damaged.

Your kidneys filter waste products from your blood while retaining what your body needs — including proteins. However, some diseases and conditions allow proteins to pass through the filters of your kidneys, causing protein in urine.
Conditions that can cause a temporary rise in the levels of protein in urine, but don’t necessarily indicate kidney damage, include:

  • Dehydration
  • Emotional stress
  • Exposure to extreme cold
  • Fever
  • Strenuous exercise
