Electrolytes are essential elements and compounds in our body which regulate many vital functions. Commonly known electrolytes are: sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, etc. Electrolyte
disorders arise when levels of these electrolytes are either high or low. These disorders range from mild and incidentally detected on lab testing or severe which may present as seizures, delirium or coma.
These substances are present in your blood, bodily fluids, and urine. They’re also ingested with food, drinks, and supplements.
An electrolyte disorder occurs when the levels of electrolytes in your body are either too high or too low. Electrolytes need to be maintained in an even balance for your body to function properly. Otherwise, vital body systems can be affected.
